GREETINGS FROM CENTRAL EUROPE!
I had planned on writing a lot more while here but unfortunately I’ve had a dead laptop for the last week. Apparently, when a friend gifts you a new adaptor you should actually open it and check to see if it only has USB outlets? When you aren’t wise enough to do such a thing you’ll end up searching the city for one that fits regular electronic plugs and quickly learn that in Slovenia they must not exist and just give up. Alas, I stumbled on one in lovely Croatia and here I am, typing away.
Today I am doing a whole lot of nothing as I am cozied up to a heater and under blankets in my little gem of an AirBnB. To be honest, I am blessed to do as much travel as I do, but it’s a tiring business as well; a lot walking, a lot of waiting and after walking for 10-12 miles for the tenth day in a row, you really just want to hibernate and hide from the world for a few hours. Today is my day of hibernation. It’s also freezing outside and I really just want to be warm for a little bit without the assistance of 57 layers.
Now I know what you’re thinking, what did I expect when coming to Europe during February? Fear not, I expected just this, in fact, I chose a wintery place on purpose because after spending the last two years bouncing over to hot and humid Southeast Asia I needed a little chilliness in my life. Don’t get me wrong, I am so happy I am here, but it. is. cold. I actually took an impromptu road trip to the Croatian coast hoping to escape the snow for a few days and I woke up to it annoyingly falling outside my cute little window this morning. The good news is that everywhere I’ve visited has been wonderful and I can only imagine how nice it is in the spring and summer as well, but for now I’m just out here freezing. I swear that I’m loving it, but just very cold in the process.
So far my trip has been extremely well-rounded; I’ve visited large cities (does Amsterdam really count as “large”?), spent time in the snowy mountains of Slovenia and am now by the Croatian sea. Despite the snow today, yesterday was an absolutely perfect day exploring the nooks and crannies of Rovinj. After wandering down cobblestoned alleys, I spent the afternoon sitting outside a cafe while sipping a cappuccino and doing a bit of drawing and writing as pigeons danced around, people milled about and the sun warmed my face. Like I said, perfection.
For my ridiculously huge fan base out there, and I’m talking to all three of you, don’t worry, I plan on writing about all the places I’ve been to soon enough, but one step at a time. I know how long it takes me to actually do that so I thought I’d post a little something-something until then. So, without further adieu, I present an incredibly random assortment of pictures from my time in Europe so far.
More to come soon(ish)!
